Why You Should Take a Private Pilates Class Before Jumping Into a Group Session

If you're new to Pilates, stepping into a group class for the first time can feel exciting—but also a little intimidating. While group sessions are full of energy, community, and flow, many Pilates instructors recommend beginning with a private Pilates class, especially if you're just getting started. Why? Because building a strong foundation can make all the difference in how you move, connect, and grow in your practice.

A private Pilates class offers personalized attention, giving you time to understand your body's alignment, core activation, and how to use the reformer or mat equipment safely. It’s the perfect opportunity to ask questions, slow things down, and focus on form—without the pressure of keeping up with a group. For beginners, this one-on-one setting can build confidence and help you move into group classes with a better understanding of Pilates fundamentals.

Even for experienced movers, a private session can help you refine technique, address imbalances, and take your practice to the next level. Think of it as an investment in your movement—and in your overall Pilates journey. Whether you’re wearing your TICI Active grip socks in a cozy studio or flowing at home, starting with a private class helps ensure that every movement feels aligned, empowered, and intentional. Oh, and don't forget to matcha after class.
