Why Adding Weights to Pilates Matters While on a GLP-1

Why Adding Weights to Pilates Matters While on a GLP-1

Pilates Is a Strong Foundation

Pilates supports core strength, balance, control, mobility and muscular endurance. Adding resistance can make those familiar movements more challenging and give your muscles a stronger reason to adapt.

Think light dumbbells during standing work, ankle weights for leg series, resistance bands, weighted balls or increased spring tension on the reformer. The weights do not need to be heavy to be effective. They need to challenge you without compromising your form.

Why Add Weights to Pilates While on a GLP-1?

Weighted Pilates brings strength training into a workout you may already enjoy. It can help support:

  • Lean muscle maintenance during weight loss
  • Functional strength for everyday movement
  • Stronger bones and joints
  • Better balance and stability
  • A more capable, energized body

The key is progressive resistance. As your body becomes stronger, gradually increase the weight, repetitions or spring tension. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, consistency and appropriately challenging resistance are more important than following an overly complicated program.

The Goal Is Strong, Not Simply Smaller

A GLP-1 may support weight loss, but it cannot replace movement. Adding weights to Pilates helps keep strength, muscle and long-term function in the conversation.

Start where you are, protect your form and progress gradually. Work with your healthcare provider and a qualified Pilates instructor if you need personalized guidance.

Because the goal is not simply to take up less space. It is to feel strong in the body you are building.

Don't forget your grip socks when heading to pilates class. TICI ACTIVE grip socks are great for mat and reformer support to keep you grounded.
